The laboratory tests in Britain have confirmed the H5N1 virus in the poultry which were found dead last week in Romania's Danube delta village.
"Regarding the samples in Caraorman, the laboratory in London confirmed it was the highly pathogenic H5N1 virus," Romania's agriculture ministry said on Monday.
The Romanian authorities discovered four new cases of avian flu in domestic birds in Caraorman on Nov. 14. The country maintained a high alert against a possible outbreak of bird flu in the Danube Delta.
Last month, Romania became the first country in mainland Europe to detect the deadly H5N1 virus in poultry in two villages in the Danube delta.
The H5N1 virus, which killed more than 60 people in Asia since 2003, have been detected in Turkey, Romania and Russia. The whole Europe is keeping high alert and taking no chance among the bird flu scare.
No case of human-to-human transmission of bird flu has been confirmed, but the World Health Organization (WHO) said it may only be a matter of time before the virus can pass easily from man to man.
