China and Saudi Arabia have signed a protocol on cooperation in petroleum, natural gas and minerals.
Chinese President Hu Jintao and visiting Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz have signed the document in Beijing.
Earlier, during talks with Abdullah, Hu Jintao has praised the Saudi King's constant efforts in improving Sino-Saudi Arabian relations.
"Your excellency is the first Saudi King to visit China. This is also your excellency's first visit to another country since coming to the throne. And China is the first stop of your excellency's tour. These three 'firsts' themselves demonstrate the importance you attach to Sino-Saudi relations."
Hu Jintao says China and Saudi Arabia have made remarkable achievements in economic, trade and energy cooperation in the past few years.
China is now Saudi Arabia's fourth largest importer and fifth largest exporter, while Saudi Arabia is China's tenth largest importer and biggest oil supplier.
Abdullah says Saudi Arabia will advance reciprocal bilateral cooperation in economics, energy and infrastructure, and encourage cultural exchanges with China.
The two countries have also signed cooperative documents concerning economic cooperation and professional training.
