A Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman says the 60th anniversary of the end of World War Two and China's War of Resistance Against Japan serve as a good opportunity for people across the world to reflect on the past and cherish peace.
At the regular press briefing Thursday, spokesman Liu Jianchao said every country should stick to the peaceful road of development.
"Through a series of commemoration activities, we also hope that some countries, especially those who still hold incorrect attitudes and knowledge of history, can be inspired to profound reflection on their wartime mistakes and establish a correct and responsible attitude on historical issues. This has great significance for the peace and stablity of Asia and the world as a whole."
Commenting on Sino-Japan relations, Liu Jianchao said both China and Japan are countries which have regional and global influence, and so the two sides will make continuous efforts to improve bilateral relations.
"Altough there are difficulties facing the Sino-Japan political relationship, one thing that is sure is that the two sides still attach great importance on the relationship with each other and will work to push the bilateral relations back on track. We hope Japan can properly deal with relevant problems, such as the history issue and Taiwan."
