China's Standardization Administration has announced that the national standards on hybrid vehicles will be implemented in October 2005.
The six-item national standards will become the testing benchmarks for domestic vehicle sales certificates.
Experts from China Auto Research Center say the national standards have adopted some clauses from Toyota, which are close to international standards regarding hybrid vehicles.
Analysts say the Japanese carmaker Toyota will become the biggest beneficiary when the new standards come into effect.
Sino-Japanese car making joint venture First Auto Toyota has made plans to introduce its popular hybrid car Prius in China market in October this year.
Several other Chinese carmakers are busy in hybrid car research and preparing to produce their clean energy-driven vehicles as planned.
