Singaporean and Chinese officials met in Singapore on Friday to commemorate the 60th anniversary of China's victory over the Japanese aggression in World War II.
Speaking at a symposium held by the Chinese embassy in Singapore, Chinese Ambassador Zhang Yun stressed that history shuold not be "distorted", referring to a few Japanese politicians who continue, from China's perspective, to absolve WWII war criminals from guilt.
Calling China's 14-year fight against the Japanese an important part of the international anti-fascism efforts during WWII, the Ambassador said that Chinese people cherish peace and will continue to make a contribution to international prosperity.
Participants at the seminar criticized Japan's invasion of China and Southeast Asian countries more than 60 years ago, and again urged Japanese leaders to re-evaluate their stance in recognising this debt.
