The 30-member delegation of Taiwan's New Party paid respects at the Huanghuagang Martyrs' Cemetery in Guangzhou Thursday morning.
The New Party's Chairman Yok Mu-ming laid a wreath at the cemetery and carefully watered the pine tree planted by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the forerunner of China's democratic revolution.
Yok Mu-ming said the party's visit, known as the "journey of the Chinese nation" marks the 60th anniversary of the Chinese people's victory in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.
This eight-day visit by the New Party closely follows mainland visits made by two other major Taiwan opposition parties, the Chinese Kuomintang and People First Party, in April and May.
The Huanghuagang Martyrs' Cemetery is the resting place of the 72 martyrs who sacrificed themselves in an uprising in April 1911.
Dr. Sun Yat-sen led the uprising to overthrow China's last dynasty, the Qing Dynasty.
Sixty-five year-old Yok Mu-ming was elected chairman of the New Party in June 2003. Next
