Hong Kong's new chief executive Donald Tsang celebrates the eighth anniversary of Hong Kong's handover to China on Friday.
The new chief said that the public in Hong Kong has become more patriotic and the economy is rebounding.
Tsang said at a reception that people feel closer to the mainland since the 1997 handover. He stressed the flesh and blood bond the two have. He also pledged to improve governance and the economy.
Tsang thanked the central government for its support to Hong Kong. He said people in Hong Kong must take full advantage of the motherland's resources and support to promote economic development.
The top Hong Kong leader expressed his confidence in the country. He added that Hong Kong will have a very bright future with the Basic Law of Hong Kong and "One Country, Two Systems" as the cornerstones.
