China opposes fixing a time limit for Security Council reform and will use its power of veto in any vote on proposals in which serious differences still exist.
China's Permanent Representative to the UN, Wang Guangya says China opposes fixing a time limit for Security Council reform and will use its power of veto in any vote on proposals in which serious differences still exist.
Wang reaffirmed China's support for the reform of the UN Security Council, adding that the enlargement of the Security Council should first consider memberships of the developing countries, especially African countries.
The Chinese ambassador made the remarks on Tuesday at a UN General Assembly session deliberating the draft document for the September UN summit.
He says consultations are needed to improve the efficiency of the UN and its ability to meet the new challenges.
Wang says the document should set out concrete steps and a specific timetable, to speed up the implementation of the UN Millennium development project.
He also says the principles of the UN charter should be observed so as to uphold the authority of the UN.
