The Chairman of Taiwan's People First Party has set foot in Xi'an, the capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, after making a stop over in Hong Kong Thursday morning.

James Soong and his party delegation start a nine-day visit to the Chinese mainland. Before he left Taipei, James Soong reiterated at a press conference Wednesday that he adheres to the one-China policy.

He said he hopes his visit will boost stability across the Taiwan Straits and enable both sides to reach a more detailed consensus, building on the recent visit of Chinese Kuomintang Party Chairman Lien Chan to the mainland.
