The Kuomintang leader was born in Xi'an in 1936 and spent his childhood there. During his stay, he visited the terracotta warriors and went to his former school.

On Friday, Lien Chan met with Chinese Communist Party General Secretary Hu Jintao in Beijing. It has been 60 years since top leaders of China's two largest political parties last met in Chongqing to discuss peace.

He started the mainland tour on Tuesday and he will go to Shanghai on Sunday, the final stop of his week-long visit.
