Top CPC Official Meets with James Soong

A top Chinese Communist Party official says the formal talks between Party General Secretary Hu Jintao and the leader of People First Party will be a milestone in the history of the two parties' relations.

A top Chinese Communist Party official says the formal talks between Party General Secretary Hu Jintao and the leader of Taiwan's People First Party on Thursday will be a milestone in the history of the two parties' relations and a great event in cross-Straits relations.

Chinese Communist Party politburo member Zeng Qinghong made the remarks while meeting with People First Party Chairman James Soong in Beijing on Wednesday. He praised the People First Party's adherence to the "One-China" policy and opposition to "Taiwan Independence".

Zeng Qinghong also hosted a reception for Soong on Wednesday evening.

Beijing is the last leg of Soong's nine-day mainland visit
