Taiwan's People First Party leader James Soong has met with Wang Daohan, president of the mainland-based Association for Relations across the Taiwan Straits in Shanghai.

Wang Daohan praised the PFP's adherence to the "1992 Consensus" which advocates the one-China principle and opposing Taiwan independence.

Referring to a resumption of cross-Strait dialogue, Wang Daohan said the mainland has always taken the stance that both the mainland and Taiwan belong to one China.

The mainland therefore welcomes contacts with any individuals or political parties in Taiwan who acknowledge the one-China principle.

James Soong said that the Taiwan compatriots highly respect Wang Daohan for his contribution to peace and development across the Taiwan Straits.

Shanghai is Soong's third stop on the Mainland after Xi'an and Nanjing. He will also travel to Changsha and Beijing during his nine-day trip.
