Overseas Chinese Hail CPC, KMT Meeting

Overseas Chinese have reacted positively to the historic meeting between the Communist Party of China and the Taiwan-based Kuomintang Party.

Overseas Chinese have reacted positively to the historic meeting between the Communist Party of China and the Taiwan-based Kuomintang Party.

Chinese living in Washington said the meeting between CPC Central Committee General Secretary Hu Jintao and Kuomintang Chairman Lien Chan will help promote peace and mutual trust across the Taiwan Straits.

They also described the meeting as a heavy blow to Taiwan separatist attempts.

Meanwhile, Chinese business people in Myanmar said the landmark meeting between CPC and KMT leaders will be conducive to China's peaceful reunification.

In addition, the Associations for Promoting Peaceful Reunification in Australia and Cambodia said the meeting demonstrates the common aspiration of all Chinese people, including Taiwan compatriots, and will help promote cross-Straits relations.

Chinese living in South Africa, Madagascar, Romania and Hungary also voiced their support for the meeting between Hu Jintao and Lien Chan.
