Annan was speaking at the second Asian-African Summit which opened Friday in Jakarta.
He praised Bandung's vision to overcome the divisions of the Cold War, based on peaceful co-existence and the principles of the United Nations Charter. He said it gave people in the developing world a voice on the international stage.
The two-day Asian-African Summit is to commemorate the golden jubilee of the Bandung Conference.
Held in 1955, Bandung was attended by 29 Asian and African country leaders, and resulted in the 'Ten Principles of Bandung' calling for solidarity, friendship and cooperation among developing countries.
