A senior Chinese official says Macao's Legislative Assembly should make a greater contribution to the region's development. Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Liu Yandong made this comment to President of Macao's Legislative Assembly, Susana Chou at a meeting on Wednesday in Beijing.
Liu Yandong says the principles of "One Country, Two Systems", "Macao people governing Macao" and "a high degree of autonomy" have been implemented well in Macao in the five years since its return to the motherland and the assembly should ensure this continues.
Macao's Legislative Assembly has assisted the special administrative region in achieving stability and development since 1999.
Over this time, the Legislative Assembly has passed over 70 laws and regulations, providing legal guarantees for Macao's prosperity.
