China Opposes Lee Teng-hui's Secessionist Activities
2005-10-20 20:59:25      CRIENGLISH.com
The Chinese government has reiterated its firm opposition to the secessionist activities by former Taiwan leader, Lee Teng-hui.

It has been recently reported that Lee Teng-hui is currently in the United States and has made remarks that are detrimental to Cross-Strait relations.

Answering reporters' questions on this issue at a regular press conference Thursday in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Kong Quan said Lee Teng-hui has repeatedly disrupted Cross-Strait relations by preaching "Taiwan Independence", thus undermining Sino-US relations, peace and stability in the Asia Pacific region.

Kong Quan said China has lodged a solemn representation to the US, demanding the US abide by its pledge to observe the one China policy and the three Sino-US Joint Communiques and oppose "Taiwan Independence".
