Austrian novelist and playwright Elfriede Jelinek has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, becoming only the 10th woman and the first Austrian to win the prize. The 57-year-old writer is best-known for her autobiographical 1983 novel "The Piano Teacher" which has been made into a movie three years ago. The awards are presented on December 10.
