China is taking positive measures to prevent AIDS spreading among the gay community.

Information on gay people is being collected in each province, condoms are given away for free, education on AIDS and prevention of other venereal diseases is available and 42 monitoring spots for gay people have been established in 19 provinces.

Medical experts say gay people are the second most susceptible to HIV infection, after drug users, as they often have multiple sex partners and unprotected sex.

A recent survey conducted by Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention shows that the prevalence rate of HIV among gays would be 1.35 percent.

The center also estimated that the total number of male homosexuals in the country may lie somewhere between five and ten million.
