As the 17th World AIDS Day nears, a series of public campaigns aimed at promoting anti-AIDS measures was launched on Sunday at Beijing's Xidang Culture Plaza.

As part of the campaign, the Ankang Hospital in the city's Xuangwu District will distribute free methadone to urban heroin addicts. The heroin substitute will be strictly controlled, and must be taken on the spot at the hospital.
