China's film industry is booming at the end of this year.

First Feng Xiaogang's New Year blockbuster "A World Without Thieves" took 90 million Yuan in two weeks, and now another hot new film "Kung Fu Hustle" has taken 50 million Yuan at the box office in its first weekend.

This new film by Hong Kong's funnyman Stephen Chow has broken the mainland's opening day box office record, taking in 4 million yuan, or over 480 thousand US dollars.

The film has already far outdone "A World without Thieves", which had been the most popular choice during the Christmas rush.

42 year old Chow, co-wrote, directed and starred in "Kung Fu Hustle," a comedy about gangsters who try to take over a street populated by kung fu masters disguised as ordinary residents.
