The renowned Chinese photographer Gu Changwei's film "Peacock" hit Chinese cinemas on the Christmas Day of Saturday.

Gu Changwei showed up at the Beijing New Dong'an cinema to open the box office for his first epic.

The photographer also hoped that "Peacock" will be nominated for next year's Berlin Film Festival.

"Peacock" is a coming-of-age tale about three children of a working-class family in the 1970s.

It was widely acclaimed by Chinese college students when it was first screened in Beijing Film Academy last month.
