Famous Chinese director Chen Kaige and his film star wife Chen Hong have given a lecture on Asian values that are expressed through film, at the Kobe University in Japan.

Students, researchers and people living nearby waited in queues for hours to attend the lecture, and get a sneak look at the director's film "Together".

Sources say the audience response was even more lively than when Soviet President Gorbachev spoke at the Kobe University.

Chen Kaige has also been invited to give a lecture at other famous universities including Stanford University, Columbia University and Waseda University.
