The Chinese actress Vicky Zhao, singer Sha Baoliang and renowned cross-talker Jiang Kun teamed up to kick off the charity walkathon, the Long March for Education, in Beijing on Wednesday.

A total of 21 people from Hong Kong and Chinese mainland will take part in the 10-month-walkathon, which will start on Friday, following in the footsteps of the Chinese Red Army's historical Long March in the 1930s, covering about 8,000 kilometers.

The Long March, starting from China's Jiangxi Province to northwest Shaanxi Province, aims to create awareness of education issues in China.

It will raise money to build more primary schools, and help drop-outs return to school.
