Chinese driver Men Guangyuan from the Mitsubishi team was forced to drop out of the Dakar Rally because of a problem with his gearbox.

The Dakar Rally is known as one of the most dangerous and difficult rallys in the world - indeed, a third of the drivers fail to make the finishing line in Dakar.

Chinese driver Men Guangyuan from the Mitsubishi team was missing for several days. After a gruelling few days in the Mauritanian desert, Men was rescued but forced to drop out of the rally because of a problem with his gearbox.

With food and water airdropped by the Dakar Rally committee, Men Guangyuan survived 3 days and 4 nights in the desert. He was eventually picked up by a plane and taken to safety. There have been rumors that Men's desert drama was caused by his speeding, but the driver denies this.

Men said, "It was definitely not because of speed. We will find out what happens when the car is recovered from the desert. Anyway, it is okay. There will be other chances for me."

Whatever the reason for the incident, Men Guangyuan has been forced to drop out of the rally.
