China's women badminton players were routed at the ongoing China Open Friday, with only Xie Xingfang making it to the last four.

Olympic champion Zhang Ning, who had just returned from her honeymoon, fell victim to team-mate Xie Xingfang 13-10,11-9,11-7.

After a one all draw, the two traded scores in the final set. Xie took the lead at 9-7, while Zhang Ning failed to level due to a vital net and the world number three had to concede defeat when she could not save her rival's deciding smash.

In other matches, second seed Gong Ruina was overwhelmed by Hong Kong player Wang Chen in straight sets, and Zhou Mi was nailed by a Dane.

The only surviving Chinese, Xie Xingfang, will clash with Chinese-French Pi Hongyan in the semifinal.
