The State Drug and Food Administration has approved a China-developed AIDS vaccine for a first stage clinical test in China. The vaccine was developed eight years ago and is a mixture of two vaccines, which make it more powerful against the disease.

Previous tests on animals show the vaccine protected their organs from being attacked by HIV virus. Cao Wenzhuang is from the State Food and Drug Administration.

"The first stage clinical test is focused on its safety, and this doesn't mean development of the vaccine has succeeded. Long-lasting tests are still needed before it succeeds in the end. Even it fails, it's good foundation for further researches."

The clinical tests will be conducted in southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous region. Thirty volunteers will be recruited confidentially.

Last July, the Administration accelerated examination and approval of the HIV vaccine in a bid to curb the fast spread of HIV/AIDS in China.
