Athens Olympics Television Right Brings IOC $1.5 Bln

Athens Olympic Games have brought in the IOC one and a half billion US dollars from the sale of broadcast rights.
This year's Athens Olympic Games have brought in the International Olympic Committee 1 and a half billion US dollars from the sale of broadcast rights.
This revenue is almost 15 times more than that of the Moscow Olympics in 1980 and accounts for half of the IOC's total earnings from this year's games.
The National Broadcasting Company in the US purchased the television rights for 793 million US dollars, the highest price paid for an event of this kind.
But the company still earned net profits of over 200 million US dollars due to high audience ratings and advertising revenues of around 1 billion US dollars.
So far, NBC has spent 2 billion US dollars on acquiring the exclusive television rights to the Olympics in 2008 and 2012 in North America.
