Leaders attending a small island developing states conference in Mauritius have called for more action from the international community to help them achieve sustainable development. Chairman of the conference Paul Berenger expressed his disappointment over the Implementation of the Program of Action for the Sustainable Development for small islands as well as concern about new problems, including economic globalization, AIDS and security. The chairman also calls on developed countries to provide more favorable policies concerning market access and investment for small island states. UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan says the UN will give priority to addressing the concerns of small island countries. During the meeting, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing also calls on the small islands to work together to deal with common threats and boost their economy. (Photo Source: AP)
