The EU-China summit and the issues being discussed at it have been receiving heavy coverage from EU media outlets. CRI's Germany correspondent, Li Yan, reports.
Wide European media coverage of the EU-China summit, and the visit of premier Wen Jia Bao to the Netherlands, is evidenceof the rapidly growing importance of EU-China relations for the European Union.

The EU portal site "Europa" reported Commission President Jos¨¦ Manuel Barroso as saying the EU was at a dynamic moment in its relationship with China; which was growing in political as well as trade fields. He also said that developing this relationship would be one of the EU's top foreign policy objectives in the coming years.

The site said that the summit would reflect that dialogue between the EU and China now covered all the essential areas of a modern partnership including security, trade, science and technology and the environment

It also pointed out that during 2004 there had been an unprecedented number of contacts between the two sides, including two visits by Premier Wen Jia Bao.

The Belgian based EU Observer meanwhile touched on the issue of the arms embargo saying that China had warned that a decision not to lift the ban could have consequences for future ties.

And AFP reported that the two sides would raise confidence in the security area by signing a joint-declaration on non-proliferation issues. It also suggested another agreement on the peaceful uses of nuclear technology might be signed as well.
