China will launch a campaign to crack down the rampant gambling.

Minister of Public Security Zhou Yongkang says that Communist Party and government officials, and state-owned organization chiefs involved in gambling activities will receive heavier punishments.

Zhou Yongkang urges police departments across the country to work together in a battle against gambling.

The campaign will also try to block the channels through which many Chinese go abroad for gambling and to shut down gambling websites.

Three hot lines and one website address were released for people to report gambling activities to the police authorities.
