The Chinese President's speeches made headlines in Macao, while commentary suggested the president's words accurately represented local residents' hopes and desires.

Hu Jintao urged the regional government to stick to the guidelines of "one country, two systems", "Macao people governing Macao" and a high degree of autonomy.

Vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Ma Man Kei, said the President's speeches were highly encouraging, and gave him hope that the Macao SAR government could promote social unity.
