China will optimize the export structure of textiles from next year, but the move is not aimed at increasing the export volume.

Ministry of Commerce spokesman Chong Quan says China will charge export tax on some textile products according to quantities. The ministry will give textile exporters information on market trends to help exporters decide when to export stock.

The spokesman stresses that these steps are to improve the international competitiveness of Chinese textile enterprises, to make the industry sustainable, rather than to increase the export volume.

He says the Chinese government supports the liberalization and facilitation of international trade, and opposes the protectionism and any unfairness or discrimination against Chinese products.
