Wang Zhao might not be a well-known painter to the Chinese, but in Japan where he lives now he is already an established name to art lovers. On the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the founding of the People¡¯s Republic of China, Wang Zhao held his 42nd solo painting exhibition in Beijing, which is the second time for him to hold a painting exhibition in China. A descendant of the royal Qing Dynasty, Wang Zhao started learning the traditional Chinese water and ink painting art form from his parents and teachers early on. 22 years ago, he went to Japan for further study and learned from the Japanese painter Hirayama Ikuo. After years of research and practice, he has successfully mixed the styles of Japanese painting and the traditional Chinese water and ink painting, establishing his own unique painting style.
A good use of natural mineral paints is one of the most distinctive features in Wang Zhao¡¯s works. He knows how to portray the mountains, rivers, trees, flowers, birds and figures with simple and bright designs, which boasts a strong decorative taste. From the paintings, the audience can sense the artist¡¯s love of life and nature. So it is not strange that when his paintings were exhibited in Japan, some Japanese visitors even shed tears over these beautiful and moving images. In spite of his fame in Japan, Wang Zhao never gives up practicing and is always praised by his friends and colleagues as a hardworking artist. He hopes to make contributions to the communication between the Chinese and the Japanese people, and what¡¯s more, he hopes to let more people around the world know his works and feel his love towards life and nature.
