Angela Chang--Pandora
    2006-04-28 16:48:23      CRIENGLISH.com

Taiwan singer Zhang Shaohan, or Angela Chang, is a rising force in her new profession. Unlike other actress-turned-singers, Angela Chang is more than just a pretty face, with obvious musical talent and three albums already under her belt.

It's hard to imagine such a powerful voice comes from the slight figure of Angela Chang, yet this song, "Fable" proved to be her breakthrough hit in 2004. It also proved that not all actress-turned-singers needed to rely on their past fame and good looks to achieve success. This song 'Fable' depicts a young girl who is a little disobedient, a little adventurous and a little idle. Let's have a listen to this track, as taken from Chang's debut album 'Over the Rainbow'.

Angela Chang certainly didn't hang around after the 2004 success of her debut album, issuing her second work, Aurora, within the same year. On Aurora, Chang slowed down the beats to try her hand at a variety of styles, including soul numbers and love ballads. Surprisingly, she also added a few world music elements. For example, on our next song, Straight Line, Chang deviates from the norm with a little Indian music.

The lead track from Angela Chang's second album was Mama Mama, which we'll hear in a minute. The lyrical theme of this slightly rocking song somewhat resembles Papa Don't Preach, an early Madonna song, although in this case tension exists between an adolescent girl and her mother. The lyrics go, "Mama please don't always think of me. The way you love me drives me away from you," before Chang later rebelliously adds "Mama please find something to do. Don't make me fill up all your time."

Over the Rainbow and Aurora were both successful albums for Angela Chang. However, on her third release, Pandora, which came out last month, Chang seems to have become a little conservative. There are no major breakthroughs on this album, but instead further polishing of styles which can be found on her previous works. Yet having said, most of the tracks are very pleasant to the ear, so for our last track, let's finish with a new song entitled Earthshaking. We hope you enjoy this fast tempo track, and please join us again for more music on China Melody, same time next week.
