The most anticipated maestro Sir Simon Rattle and his beloved Berlin Philharmoniker arrived in Shanghai yesterday afternoon, with enthusiastic staff from Oriental Arts Center awaiting at the international terminal.
On leaving the airport through guest passage, 128 musicians, 19 executives,15 TV workers were sent directly to the hotel with luxurious autobuses while the Sir Simon Rattle, as well as orchestra officials left by limousines.
Because of the urgent timetable, the orchestra gave up the original maglev plan, but they will make up for it by taking maglev on way back to airport on Nov 12th.
Nearly one-third musicians stay in Grand Hyatt Shanghai in Jinmao Tall, others lodge in Shanghai Shangri-La. More than 100 musical instruments transported by air have been stored in underground rehearsal hall at Oriental Arts Center. During stay in Shanghai, orchestra will conduct the Shanghai Youth Symphony Orchestra, hold master class in Shanghai Conservatory and invite some students to watch the rehearsal.
