Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Liu Jianchao, says China's request for the European Union to lift the arms embargo should not be related to the situation across the Taiwan Straits.
Liu jianchao says the Anti-Secession Law is aimed at China's peaceful reunification and is not a war bill.
He says China is urging the EU to come to a full and accurate understanding of the purpose and content of the Law and respect China's efforts to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He says the law is about maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits as well as in the Asia-Pacific region.
The spokesman says it is in the common interests of both China and the EU for the European bloc to lift the arms embargo on China as early as possible.
