France Wishes Iraqi Elections Successful

French President Jacques Chirac expressed his wish that the Iraqi general elections on Jan. 30 would be successful.

French President, Jacques Chirac, has met visiting Iraqi President Ghazi al-Yawar, and expressed his wish that the Iraqi general elections on Jan. 30 would be successful.

The French president was speaking during a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart in the French presidential Elysee Palace.

Chirac stressed the necessity for the participation of as many of the Iraqi people as possible.

The United States and the Iraqi government are determined that the first Iraqi legislative elections will be held at all costs on Jan. 30.

However, the US admitted on Wednesday that it recognized that the elections "would not be perfect" in that country still in chaos.
