China says it will continue to take a positive attitude in discussion of the Iraq issue at the UN Security Council.

A Foreign Ministry spokesman was responding to the draft resolution on Iraq submitted by the US and Britain to the UN Security Council.

The spokesman says China supports the UN Security Council to approve a new resolution on Iraq and has expressed China's stance to the council. And China's Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing has exchanged views on this issue with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Colin Powell during a telephone discussion.

The spokesman says China is seriously studying the US and Britain's draft resolution. China hopes the UN Security Council members will have a detailed exchange of views and solicit opinions from various parties, especially Iraq, Arab nations and UN Secretary General Kofi Annan before reaching consensus.
