The first ITTF Women's Forum took place Thursday, with the aim of promoting the women's sports worldwide.
Deng Yaping, China's former Olympic and world Champion delivered a speech on the development of Chinese women's sports, especially on the sport of women's table tennis. In her speech, she explained the reasons behind why Chinese women athletes have done better than Chinese men, hoping to contribute to the development of the women's sports around the world.
Deng Yaping says Chinese women's success should be attributed to the full support from the government and the three-level training system, namely, spare-time sports schools, provincial teams and national teams.
Besides, she says the Chinese traditional view that women are inferior to men also plays a part:
Talking about the promotion of women's sport, Deng Yaping says China has done a great job in many respects, such as their participation and their accomplishments.
In regard to equality between men and women, Deng Yaping says the whole world, including China, needs further improvement, though she is proud that China has made great progress:
As a former member of the International Olympic Committee, Deng Yaping is devoted to promoting women's sports around the world. She believes the situation will improve as everyone makes efforts to promote the concept of equality between men and women.
