'Return of the King' Takes Crown at U.S. Box Office

"The Return of the King"sold over 125 million dollars worth of tickets in its first five days of release across the United States and Canada.
 

"The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" satisfied the mass of movie goers this weekend and sold over 125 million dollars worth of tickets in its first five days of release across the United States and Canada, setting several new records in the process.

Internationally, the film earned 121 million dollars from 28 other countries. The film is predicted to reach a total of 470 million dollars by the end of next weekend.

The first film in the series, "The Fellowship of the Ring," ended up with 865 million dollars worldwide after its December 2001 release, while "The Two Towers" pulled in 921 million a year later. (Cathleen)
