Trade ministers from 34 countries in the Western Hemisphere have approved a framework for the world's largest free-trade region.

The framework of the Free Trade Area of the Americas was approved one day ahead of the original schedule.

US Trade Representative Robert Zoellick said the ministers had moved the FTAA into a new phase.

Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim said Thursday's declaration was a good sign that there might be future movement within the World Trade Organization. (Liang Tao)
