Qu Xin: The Asian Cup logo is a dragon icon. The design - a dragon surrounding a football - illustrates the dragon's quest to capture the fireball. It's a symbol that embodies the traditions and ambitions of a nation that continues to grow in global stature. The dragon encapsulates strength, dynamism, energy and fearlessness, features which epitomize the spirit of AFC's premier event, the Asian Cup.
The Beijing event also unveiled the Official Mascot, "Bei Bei." Representing the Chinese Year of the Monkey, Bei Bei is fun loving, friendly and colorful. Bei Bei thinks fast, reacts even faster and never gives up until he has achieved his goals.
AFC Senior Vice President Asad Taqi says the symbol not only represents the character and heritage of the Asian Cup, but also the tradition and culture of the host country:
"The image is typical of China, but the message is very clear and universal. I look with great anticipation to next summer for the kickoff of the Asian Cup. By that time, the identity of the Asian Cup will really come to life. All it represents will definitely come true. And all the persons in China and Asia will recognize that it represents success. And I'm sure that the China Football Association, Chinese people, Chinese government, the great country will support Asian Cup, the most prestigious event of football in Asia, and we're looking for your support."
The Asian Cup is the top celebration of Asian soccer, a football festival for all Asian people. Senior Vice President of the China Football Association Yan Shiduo says it's a great honor that China has been given the chance to host the Asian Cup 2004 and to provide services to Asian football:
"One game, one goal, one continent is our understanding and expectation for the Asian Cup. Today, the AFC officially launches the identity and mascot of Asian Cup China 2004, which signals the preparations for the Asian Cup have stepped into a new stage. The identity and mascot stand for the image and blessing of the Asian Cup. Asian Cup China 2004 will be a success in Asian football history, a lasting memory."
The Asian Cup finals will kick off next July in four Chinese cities.
