Phoenix City, and other places of cultural heritage in Central China's Hunan province will soon be protected by law. Phoenix City is discussing how to regulate its protection.
The city, Huangsiqiao City and southern sections of the Great Wall are to be added to the state protection list.
The the construction, size and colours of renovations in the city centre must adhere to Ming and Qing Dynasty patterns and styles. No historically valuable streets will be widened or narrowed, and protected areas will be fully pedestrianzed with access only for emergency vehicles.
Local governments are urged to boost the tourist trade and develop the folk culture resources including museums, traditional workshops, craftwork and tours.
