Chinese President Hu Jintao is commemorating Mao Zedong, the founder of New China, during the leader's 110 birth anniversary.

At a symposium held in Beijing on Friday, Hu Jintao recalled Mao Zedong's achievements, and concluded outstanding contributions have been made by members of the Communist Party of China with Mao Zedong as the representative.
"Comrade Mao Zedong is a great historic figure. He belongs to China as well as to the whole world. His revolutionary practice and glorious achievements have been written into Chinese history. His name, his thought and his spirit will forever encourage us, his fellow comrades, to continue pushing Chinese society to develop forward."
Hu Jintao notes that the best way to commemorate Mao Zedong is to continue the reform and opening-up policy and the construction of the socialist modernization to benefit all Chinese people.
On Friday, all major Chinese newspapers dedicated special reports to Mao Zedong. One leading Chinese newspaper, the People's Daily, carries reports of commemorative activities across the nation, recollections of the elderly in the late leader's era, and theoretical explorations into the Mao Zedong's thoughts.
The China Daily, an English language newspaper, said in a front page report that Mao's military, philosophical and literary teachings still influence China and many foreigners.
About 70 books have also been published to mark the 110th birth anniversary of Mao. (Zheng Yunfeng)
