3 Chinese killed in burglary in Angola's capital

Three Chinese merchants have been killed and another seriously injured in a burglary in the capital of Angola.
The injured, Huang Zongwei, says the suspect was a local driver working for his company.
He says the suspect broke into the house with a gun, shot dead the boss and two other Chinese, and robbed about 4 million Kwanzas or some 40,000 U.S. dollars before fleeing.
The Chinese Embassy has denounced the incident and urged Angolan police to bring the suspect to justice as soon as possible.
The upcoming Christmas and New Year season normally sees rising crime rates in Angola.


Abbas Condemns Israel over Minister's Death

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is strongly condemning Israel after a Palestinian minister died in clashes with Israeli police in the West Bank.
The clashes erupted when Minister Ziad Abu Ein was heading to a demonstration against Jewish settlements.
An Israeli policeman was seen grabbing the minister's neck firmly with one hand.
Minutes later the minister looked faint and fell to the ground. He died on his way to hospital.
An autopsy is being carried out with the results expected later today.


2 female suicide bombers behind Nigerian market attack: police

Police in Nigeria say two female suicide bombers were behind the explosion that targeted a local market in the northwestern state of Kano.
The young girls, wearing hijabs, carried out the attack by detonating their explosive devices at the biggest and busiest textile market in the country's north.
Six people including the bombers were killed and at least seven others injured.
Earlier reports quoted witnesses as saying that dozens were killed in the blast.
The attack came two weeks after suicide bombers hit the central mosque near the Emir's palace in Kano, killing over 120 people and injuring many others.
It's unclear who's behind the attacks, but Islamist militant group Boko Haram has carried out a series of similar attacks in the country.


5 Ebola fighters named as Time Person of the Year for 2014

Five health care workers, all part of the fight against Ebola in West Africa, will share Time Magazine's 2014 Person of the Year award.
The five include 46-year-old Doctor Jerry Brown, a medical director and general surgeon at the Eternal Love Winning Africa Hospital in Monrovia, Liberia.
The Ebola outbreak has killed more than 6 thousand people out of nearly 18 thousand cases, almost all in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.


Malala Receives Nobel Peace Prize

Nobel peace laureate Malala Yousafzai has collected her award at the annual Nobel awards ceremony in Oslo.
As the youngest ever Nobel winner, she is sharing the prize with Kailash Satyarthi of India.
Both of them have campaigned for the rights of children and young people, focusing particularly on education.
Malala came to fame after she was shot by the Taliban in October 2012 for asserting her right to an education.


Russian president arrives in India on visit

Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in New Delhi for a one-day visit to India.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed Putin on his arrival, saying he looks forward to a " productive visit that will take bilateral ties to newer heights. "
Putin and Modi will hold talks before signing a series of agreements later today.
Official sources in New Delhi say 15 to 20 deals are to be inked covering defense, civil nuclear energy, oil cooperation and diamond trade.


Former Senior Economic Planning Official Sentenced to Life in Prison

A Chinese court has sentenced Liu Tienan, a former senior economic official, to life in prison.
The sentence from a court in Hebei comes around 3-months after his trial closed.
Liu Tienan is the former deputy head of the National Development and Reform Commission, as well as the head of the National Energy Administration.
He's been found guilty to taking bribes worth nearly 6-million US dollars over the course of a decade from 2002 to 2012.


China to continue aid to Maldives

China is promising to continue to provide aid to the Maldives, which is struggling with a severe shortage of water.
A fire ripped through the capital's desalinization plant last week, cutting water supplies to 150-thousand residents of Male.
China has already sent in hundreds of tonnes of fresh water via air and sea.
A Chinese naval vessell is also working to supply drinking water to Male.
The Chinese government has also donated 500-thousand U.S. dollars to the Maldives to speed up repairs at a desalination plant.


Chinese police bust dozens in drug-trafficking raid

71 suspects have been arrested as Chinese police have busted a sizeable drug-trafficking network.
A cross-province raid was carried out in Fujian, Sichuan and Hubei.
2.1 kilograms of ketamine as well as some pistols, long knives and daggers were confiscated during the operation.
Police also detained 210 drug addicts in the clamp-down.
