Chinatown in the city of Yangon in Myanmar is bulging with decorations on Saturday, January 28, marking the first day of the Year of the Rooster. "Splendid Chinatown" has been attracting thousands of visitors.
This is the first time the Lunar New Year celebrations have been jointly organized by the local Chinese community and Yangon Region government.
Honorary Chair of Myanmar's National League for Democracy, Tin Oo, Yangon Region Chief Minister Phyo Min Thein, and Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar, Hong Liang, have taken part in the opening of the celebrations, which feature dragon parades and lion dances, acrobatics, kung fu performances, food tasting and wheel of fortune spinning.1 2 3 4 5 6 7
