Chinese authorities have said the blockage of illegal VPN (virtual private network) services will not impact the operations of foreign-funded enterprises and transnational companies.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced the move to block illegal VPNs several days ago.

It said that illegal VPN services harm the rights of Internet users and bring risk to China's cyber and information safety.

Foreign-funded enterprises and transnational companies who need VPN services can deliver applications to qualified telecom operators.
