An exhibition of artwork by amateur artist Yu Qiucheng is underway in Beijing.

Technically speaking, the artworks on display are installations with the artist painting on them.

The exhibition has attracted many professional visitors, curious of his unique form of art. Shang Yang, a prominent contemporary Chinese painter, is among them.

He regards Yu's artwork as a kind of reprocessing.

"He has engaged in the contemporary art for just a few years. His painting is sort of installation art combined with discarded items. He has a feel and aesthetic value on this sort of ready-made art of the painterly nature."

According to Curator Zhu Qi, the installation painting wave started with German artist Anselm Kiefer, who used to hang various items like warship and torpedo models on paintings and expand the artwork as a whole.

Yu has made similar efforts by remaking existing objects.

The exhibition will run until November 20 at the Today Art Museum.
