China reported a new imported Zika case on Monday, the 23rd on the Chinese mainland, after a Chinese national was found to have a fever and rash when passing through customs in central China's Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan province.

The patient had been in Guatemala for over two months for work and had started to develop a headache and fever while still in the country.

After receiving treatment for a fever, the patient traveled to the United States before returning to the Chinese mainland via Seoul, South Korea.

The Chinese national denied having been bitten by mosquitoes recently or having any contact with Zika-infected sources.

The patient has been sent to a local hospital in Zhengzhou for quarantine and further treatment.

Zika is mainly transmitted by mosquitoes, and it is normally non-fatal, leaving people with only minor symptoms.

However its impact on pregnant women is a major concern.

As yet there is no cure or vaccine.
