China Urges Japan to Explain Fukushima Nuclear Leak to the World
   2016-06-08 06:39:24    CRIENGLISH.com      Web Editor: Zhang Xu

Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei has called on Japanese officials to provide details of the impact of the Fukushima nuclear incident.

This follows the admission last week by the plant's operator, Tokyo Electric Power, that it had hidden the truth regarding the consequences of the disaster.

Hong Lei urged the Japanese government to shoulder responsibility as it's expected, "The government of a country should guarantee the security and lawful rights and interests of foreign citizens. On the follow-up treatment of the incident, Japan should explain clearly to the world with a responsible attitude."

China's Foreign Ministry has warned Chinese citizens of radiation-related safety problems.

Statistics have shown that Japan issued nearly 3.8 million visas to Chinese nationals last year, accounting for 80 percent of the total number of visas issued to foreigners.

Experts have discovered that the consequences of the Fukushima nuclear incident are unprecedented, since over 80 percent of the leaked radioactive substances flowed into the sea.
